It's been a while so what Clock-Widget do you mean exactly, the Java-Way? Still, the tutorial is just an example on how to work with widgets. Unfortunately on android.com there is nothing new concerning programming, just some updates about sceen sizes I think. It's still some kind of try and error on certain parts.
